Online Report

Project Summary

In the last 4 years, the Internet Society began publishing a retrospective report measuring the impact our work around the globe. We named this report the “Impact Report”.

Challenge

The main on-going challenge has been to create and showcase a cohesive story that engages the reader and inspires action.

Solution

I wanted to overhaul the approach from the first report published in 2019 and create a graphic story that relied both on written content and visuals to explain the work accomplished. 2020 was the first year for this approach, but we found that animations needed were tricky to maintain on our ever evolving website.

In 2021, working in conjunction with IT, the Marketing Communications team, and an outside agency, I simplified the concept to only use illustrations and simple animations for impact and that helped to clarify the story told.

Role

Creative direction, art direction, creative brief writing, agency management, design lead,
supporting graphic production.

Results

Using time on page as an indicator for reader retention, it nearly tripled from 2020 to 2021.

The 2021 Impact Report also won a w3 Gold award.
