large, modular display with illustrations and information on encryption

Augmented Reality

Project Summary

We had booth space at MozFest 2019 and wanted to bring awareness to how encryption is used in every day life.

Challenge

I wanted to explain the concept of encryption in an inventive, yet easy to understand way. Since the audience at MozFest ranged in age and demographics, I wanted this experience to be informative but memorable.

Solution

Encryption is the process of scrambling data so that it can only be read if someone has the correct key. Data is kept hidden until the correct key is used to unlock it.

Capitalizing on that definition of encryption, I wanted to create an experience where the user would need a “key” to reveal hidden messages.

I worked with an agency to develop the concept, and using augmented reality, they created an app on an iPad that would reveal a “secret” message within a graphic.

Role

Conceptual brainstorming, creative direction, art direction, creative brief writing, agency management.

Results

We had a very high-level of engagement where everyone who we spoke with understood the concept of encryption after viewing the display.
